Understandably, a motor vehicle accident can pose a significant risk to the wellbeing of those involved. When a truck accident occurs, the risk to the occupants of any vehicle struck by the truck can be significantly elevated. In a recent case, a man stationed at a South Carolina air force base was killed when his vehicle was hit by a logging truck.
South Carolina authorities say that the accident occurred around 1:16 p.m. At that time, the log truck reportedly failed to stop at a stop light and hit the soldier's truck on the driver's side. The soldier was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue officials.
Authorities have not identified the driver of the log truck at this time. They have also been silent as to whether they expect to file criminal charges against the truck driver. A formal report on the accident has not been issued, and authorities likely have further investigative tasks to complete before they release their findings to the public.
From the evidence disclosed thus far, it appears that this truck accident was the result of negligence on the part of the truck driver. If this assertion is supported by credible evidence, this could lead the family of the deceased victim to pursue a wrongful death action in a South Carolina civil court. Although this action will not begin to relieve the grief of the family, a successful result may at least give them some financial security as they attempt to move past this tragic event.
